Busy Isn’t The Problem. Misalignment Is.
📚Learn
Teams aren’t failing at execution, or moving slow, because they are lazy. They are confused. They are not aligned.
And, they are misaligned because they lack clarity.
Alignment, when it comes to work and execution comes down to 3 simple layers:
Goal: What are we trying to achieve?
Strategy: How will we win?
Tactics: What work gets done daily?
When these don’t connect, people become busy, but not effective.
The fix is simple:
Every task should link to a strategy, and that strategy should link to a goal.
If it doesn’t, it shouldn’t be done.
🤔Think
Look at your current workload:
Do you know your team’s #1 goal?
Can you explain how you will get there? (the three pronged strategy to achieve results?)
Does your to-do list clearly fall into one of the 3 buckets?
Or…
Are you reacting, staying busy, and getting pulled in 10 directions?
Clarity removes overwhelm.
Confusion creates it.
If your team is going from task to task. If they feel overworked. If they seem distracted. You can address it with this simple approach.
💪 Act
Try this with your team today:
Step 1: Write 1 clear goal
→ We want to grow revenue by X
Step 2: Pick 2- 3 strategies - the paths you will take to get there.
→ i.e. We will achieve x through the combination of A, B, & C.
Step 3: Audit your tasks
And for each one, ask:
Which strategy does this task align with? (A, B, or C)
If the task aligns, keep it. If it doesn’t - eliminate it, or revisit the accuracy of the strategy.
If YES → keep it
If NO → eliminate it
Bonus:
Add 1 KPI per strategy, so you know if it’s actually working. A lagging outcome metric that you can use for the strategy to indicate success.

Execution isn’t about doing more.
It’s about doing the right things in the right order. And, that starts with alignment.

Beyond the Trailhead
You Don’t Have a People Problem. You Have a System Problem.
Ever feel like your business is moving, but not actually going anywhere?
Not stuck in the sense that nothing’s happening.
Plenty is happening.
Your team is busy.
Calendars are full.
The to-do lists keep growing.
But the outcomes aren’t matching up to the effort.

What we’re trying to achieve
How we’re trying to achieve it
And what this specific work has to do with either
It’s a clarity problem and fortunately, it’s fixable.
Start With the Goal - Then Build Backward
If alignment is the goal, you need a simple operating system that connects the work.
We use the G.A.M.E. Plan™
Goals - What are we trying to achieve?
Actions - What are the 2-3 strategic bets we are making?
Metrics - This is the activity - the actual work - the checklist.
What are the specific daily or weekly activities that need to be done?
Execution - How we achieve results.
Did we do the work?
Did the work work?
Simple. Not easy. Simple. And, simple is often hard. It does not need to be complicated.
Most teams live in execution.
Tasks. Checklists. Activity.
But without clarity on the layers above, teams and the work get disconnected.
People stay busy, but no one’s sure if the work is actually working.
The rule is straightforward:
The work should align to actions (strategy). Actions should align to goals.
When that chain is clear, two things happen:
Progress becomes measurable
Saying “no” gets a lot easier

What This Looks Like in the Real World
Picture your team on a normal Tuesday.
Requests coming in. Priorities shifting. Everything feels urgent. Without a clear system, they react.
With clarity, they filter.
Does it align to the goal?
Does it fit one of our strategic actions?
If not, why are we doing it?
Clarity doesn’t just reduce noise. If gives your team permission to decide without you.
That’s the shift.
From dependency → ownership.
Close the Loop With Metrics
Alignment without measurement is just a good intention.
You need visibility at three levels:
Activity - Is the work getting done?
Outcomes - Is the work producing results?
Objective - Are we hitting the goal?
Each layer tells it’s own story.
And when something breaks, you don’t have to guess. You can see exactly where alignment fell apart.
The Real Goal
This isn’t about getting more out of your team.
It’s about building a system that doesn’t rely on you to function.
As you ask more of your team, the system matters more, not less.
The leaders who scale aren’t doing more. They are designing systems that work without them in every conversation.
Alignment isn’t a culture initiative. It’s an operating system.
When you build the right system, the business starts to move again.
